The idol of Mother Parvati and Shankar ji is seated on Nandi. Here the marriage of Shiva is depicted. There are many more idols here.  Ganesh ji, Mahishasura Mardini, Kartikeya ji, Hanuman ji idol can be seen here. All these idols are made of stone and look very beautiful. outside the temple you can see big shivlinga and big bell.

But all these idols are installed here in a broken state. These idols have been broken by the Mughal ruler. Here 64 Yoginis are the form of Maa Durga and to defeat the demons, Maa Durga has incarnated in the form of 64 goddesses. You can look closely at these sculptures and see the design of these sculptures which looks very amazing.

History of Chausath Yogini Temple

This circular temple is called 64 Yogini Temple. The outer diameter of this temple is 130 meters and the inner diameter is 116 meters. This temple has two entrances. The temple had two entrances (one of which is closed).

This temple has been built with a combination of sandstone and granite stones. The plan and structure of the temple is unique. There are 84 statues in this temple, out of which 64 are statues of Yoginis and the rest are statues of other gods and goddesses.

The names of the goddesses are inscribed on these statues in the script of the tenth century AD, which is often different from the Sanskrit texts. It appears that it was an open roof temple in the tenth century AD and the roof was built later.

A statue here is from the Kushan period and the red sandstone statue is also from about the eighth century, which shows that there must have been more ancient temples here.

The temple of Gauri Shankar located in the courtyard of this 64 Yogini temple was built by Chedi Queen Alhana Devi in 1155 AD during the reign of her son Narasimha Dev. The inscription on the outer walls of the sanctum sanctorum tells that Maharaj Vijay Singh’s mother Maharani Gosal Devi used to worship here daily.
